Larry Summers Resigns from AI Company's Directors
One-time economic leader Larry Summers is exiting the governing body at the artificial intelligence firm, just days after a collection of digital correspondence between him and deceased financier Jeffrey Epstein became publicly available.
The economist commented in an announcement that he was "thankful for the chance to have contributed, enthusiastic about the potential of the enterprise, and eagerly await following their advancement".
The former Harvard president, who once led the prestigious university, announced on recently that he would be stepping back from public roles due to his connections with Epstein.

The recently released messages showed that the economist communicated with Jeffrey Epstein until the day before his 2019 detention for suspected sex trafficking of underage individuals.
In a separate statement, the artificial intelligence company expressed it respected the economist's choice to resign.
"We acknowledge his numerous inputs and the perspective he provided to the Board," the organization stated.
Legislative Background
This development comes after both chambers of the legislative branch decided on Tuesday to endorse a bill that would require the federal prosecutors to disclose its files on Jeffrey Epstein.
The bill will then move to the desk of US President Donald Trump for signature. The President has stated he expects to endorse the bill, after changing his stance on the matter following pushback from his supporters.

A group of Epstein-related emails released by the House Oversight Committee recently included numerous prominent individuals in the financier's former circle, without implying any legal wrongdoing by those individuals.
The messages showed that the professor and the financier often met for meals, with he often seeking to introduce the academic to notable global figures.

After the emails were shared with the wider community, Summers expressed he accepted "total ownership for my ill-advised judgment to maintain interacting with the financier".
He continued that he hoped "to restore trust and mend bonds with the individuals closest to me".
Career Background
The economist held high-level positions under Democratic administrations; serving as economic leader under Bill Clinton, and as director of the economic advisory body under President Obama.
He led Harvard from 2001 to 2006 and is still a faculty member there. When stating his departure from public duties recently on this week, he said he would continue his academic responsibilities.

Following his announcement on Monday, the Washington think tank, a left-leaning policy institute in Washington where Summers was a prominent member, verified that he was no longer affiliated with the institution.
