Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night confirming they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in social media posts by a former girlfriend of wide receiver the athlete and were in contact with the league office.
The organization did not mention the player specifically in their statement and said they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
The woman, who likewise did not name Rice directly, posted a series of photos on social media that appeared to show signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and reports indicate she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the 2023 draft.
Official Complaints Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Prior Off-Field Troubles
The receiver was absent for the first six games of this season due to an NFL suspension for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people hurt. He was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice concluded the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City went 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first time in a ten-year span.
