It's difficult for Australia to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

We're talking about the team that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, along with six more T20 titles, and earlier maintained nearly four years without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a team that has achieved everything.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to achieve their initial ODI chase above 300, reclaiming their record for the largest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have represented Australia over five decades.

It's difficult for their batters to hold a record if never given the chance.

Finally, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy getting a platform to deliver her latest masterpiece.

Initially recognized as the young family member of celebrated previous Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia couldn't capture either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups conducted earlier and has experienced everything through 15 trophy-laden years since.

Success in the T20 World Cup came three months after her first appearance and seven world titles have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final defeat by India briefly halted the run of success.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy said this week.

At the subsequent ODI World Cup in New Zealand, Healy scored 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She ensured her country would not fail again.

Whether this recent magnificent innings topped that previous effort is debatable.

Some will argue the case for final game tension. Others can counter with the difficulty that comes when confronting a historic chase and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was considerably tougher to anticipate.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she was the highest scorer, but this innings was preceded by six games in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"If you've observed me in training, it has been a challenging time because it seemed I've had no rhythm completely," said Healy.

"Yet the moment you step out on the field, your competitive nature kick in and you just lock into the competition."

Healy's competitive nature has continuously been her key asset - and a priceless quality in taking over from legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, out to the emerging pace bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's inspiration.

One run resulted off Gaud's first delivery and after that the batsman was underway.

"The possibility to take the field and lock in a contest with her and merely enjoy the moment in that aspect, kind of motivated me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her swiftest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 as she attacked short-pitched balls, scoring 21 fours and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - a manageable total now needing a comfortable finish.

"Pursuing 330 is new territory so I am glad we have the assurance to do that now," added Healy.

"Preferably we shouldn't have to do it another time but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last rival teams at this tournament want to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has only strengthened - this success succeeding win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite sitting at 76-7 at one point.

Subsequently Australia meet Bangladesh before a meeting with longtime competitors England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final berth may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a surprising setback by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she guided Australia for the initial instance at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she later said she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she subsequently acknowledged those fitness problems have delayed consideration of ending her career, this World Cup is likely to be her final tournament as skipper in 50-over cricket and she is still to achieve a world championship as skipper.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her last major obstacle.
