A Heap of Anime News Dropped Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season offer a plethora of pastimes much better than checking the headlines: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on festive fare, and employing meditation skills to not snapping at family members. It is wished you succeeded in do all these things and more. That said, the showbiz industry doesn't take a break, and this is especially true for the realm of anime. A slew of noteworthy announcements emerged over the break, and if you overlooked a few, here is a compilation of the juiciest bits.
The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Will Continue (By 2027)
Without a doubt the most surprising piece of news, the widely-criticized troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man failed to stop the series' continuation. The show will be back with a subsequent part in 2027—a date so remote they easily could have labeled it season 4. More surprisingly, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, helmer Shinpei Nagai is on board to direct from the start, which is seen as a positive development. Yet, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.
The Ruri Dragon Series Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has forged a name for being an elite animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its work but for the ethical practices of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Unexpectedly, until now, it had not produced an anime stemming from a manga from Shonen Jump, perhaps the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will break that tradition, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained widespread acclaim when it first appeared in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a extended pause due to the author's health issues. When it returned with a reduced workload, the series showed it hadn't lost the fans' appreciation and positive sentiment, and now fans are ecstatic about the forthcoming KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Its Sixth Season Will Get a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the highly popular, long-running Shueisha manga that is other than One Piece. If you've haven't come across it before, it's because it only just received an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and its sixth season was another stellar entry. As it happens that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been confirmed as in production, and it will probably air in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
One more studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has given us masterpieces of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, more recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which evokes Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will definitely be on my list of anticipated shows.
The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Second Season
Right after the release of the final episode of the first season, it was confirmed that Tougen Anki will be securing a follow-up. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki is based on the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete premiere date has yet to be revealed.
